Definition of Computer
A computer is a machine that can be programmed to manipulate data. Computers require methods to input, output and operate on data.
The picture shows the motherboard of a computer.
Computers can usually:
- Take input from a mouse, keyboard, touchscreen or voice (using voice-recognition software)
- Process the data using the CPU, auxiliary processors and memory.
- Output the results onto a screen or save them to a disc or USB stick.
Description
The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
