Definition of Surface

The surface of an object is its outer boundary.

It is a bit like a skin with no thickness.

Surfaces have the following properties:

  • They have an area, but no thickness.
  • They are two-dimensional.
  • They can be flat or curved.

For example, the surface of this octahedron is made up of flat faces that are triangular in shape.

Description

The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms.
