Sine

Definition of Sine

Sine is one of the trigonometric ratios. You can find the sine of an angle in a right angled triangle as follows:

Divide the length of the side opposite the angle by the length of the hypotenuse (longest side of the triangle).

We use \(\sin \theta\) as short hand for the sine of the angle \(\theta\).

So, the formula is:

\( \sin\theta = \dfrac{\text{opposite}}{\text{hypotenuse}}.\)
