Definition of Square Measure

A square measure is a unit that is used to measure the area of a shape or region.

Some examples of square measures are square centimetres (\(\text{cm}^2\)), square millimetres (\(\text{mm}^2\)), square metres (\(\text{m}^2\)) and hectares (ha).

If the squares in the picture each have area \(1 \text{ cm}^2\), then the area of the shape in the picture is \(7.5 \text{ cm}^2\).
