Definition of Radical

A radical is an expression that includes a root of some description, such as a square root, a cube root or a fourth root etc.

The symbol for a radical is \(\sqrt{\;}\).

For example, some radicals are:

  • \(\sqrt{x+3}\)
  • \(\sqrt[3]{x^2 + 6}\)
  • \(\sqrt[5]{3x + 4}\)

Description

The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
