Definition of Rate of Return

The rate of return on an investment is the amount that it earns in a year, expressed as a percentage of the amount that was invested.

For example, if an investment of \(\$1000\) earns \(\$150\) in a year, then its rate of return is \(\dfrac{150}{1000} = 0.15 = 15\%\).

Description
