Definition of Random

Definition of Random

Something is random if it happens by chance. In other words, something is random if it can't be predicted.

Sometimes randomly generated things lie within a certain range.

For example, the colours generated by spinning this spinner will always be one of red, green, yellow, purple, orange and blue. You will never spin pink.

For example, the numbers \(\{2.16,2.15,2.21,1.77,1.82,1.97,1.78\}\) were generated randomly, but they all lie between \(1.7\) and \(2.3\).
