# Definition of Line of Best Fit

A line of best fit (or trend line) is a line drawn on a graph to indicate the general direction that the data seems to follow.

Many lines can be drawn to indicate the general direction of the data values in a scatter plot. The line of best fit is the one that, roughly speaking, goes through the middle of all of the points on the scatter plot.
