Definition of Equal


Two things are equal if they have the same value. Two quantities are equal if they are the same amount.

For example,

  • \(2 \times 2\) equals \(4\).
  • \(3 + 6\) equals \(9\).
  • 1 dollar is equal to 100 cents.
  • 1 hour is equal to 60 minutes.
  • 1,000 metres is equal to 1 kilometre.

Description

The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
