The eccentricity of a conic section (e.g. a circle, ellipse, parabola, hyperbola or straight line) is a measure of how different it is from being a circle.

Circles have eccentricity \(0\). Straight lines have infinite eccentricity.

Description

The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms.
