Two-Step Equation

Definition of Two-Step Equation

A two-step equation is one that needs to be solved in two steps.

For example \(3x + 6 = 18\) is a two-step equation. The steps are:

  • Step 1: Subtract \(6\) from both sides to give: \(3x = 12\).
  • Step 2: Divide both sides by \(3\) to give: \(x = 4\).

Many linear equations are two-step equations.
