Getting started with Six Sigma
Chapters
Technical Tools
Methods, Tools & Techniques important to the success of any Six Sigma projects whether DMAIC or DFSS. Every stage of a Six Sigma projects requires a mix of these tools, methods& techniques. Method is a way of doing things in a systematic way. A tool provides amental or mechanical advantage in accomplishing a task. A technique which is of specific approach to efficiently accomplish tasks in a manner that may not be immediately important.
Decision Making using Voting
Provides important insight in to how to take effective business decisions using voting. It covers key voting methods like instant runoff, plurality voting, approval or multi-voting and Borda Count.
Affinity Diagram
A set pool of ideas that are generated from a brainstorming session which needs to be prioritized and analyzed before they can be implemented. Affinity diagramming is an effective way to handle a large number of ideas. It is typically used when
- Large data set is to be traversed which is generated from brainstorming
- Diverse views and opinions due toComplexity
- Group consensusandinvolvement
Benchmarking
Benchmarking is a standard by which something can be measured or compared. They set a benchmark by marking a point of known vertical elevations and benchmark become a point of reference for a measurement.
Box Plot
Box Plot is a graphical way of representing the five number summary of a datasets. The five number summaries consists of Q1, Q2 or Median, Minimum, Q3, and Maximum of a dataset
Brainstorming
Brainstorming is a method of systematically generate and analyses ideas usually to handle any challenging situations from a group of peoples by nurturing free-thinking’s. Some of the right challenges to find using are brainstorming new design, problem solving and research & new product development.
Descriptive Statistics
Descriptive Statistics is the simplest methods used in quality management for obtaining a meaningful knowledge about the data to be analyzed.
Fishbone Diagram
The graphical method for finding out the root causes of any effect. The effect can be either a process defect or a positive or process undue variation or a positive one ornegative one such as a desired process outcome.
Operational Definition
Operational definition is part effective management which helps us to build a clear understanding of concept or phenomenon so that it can bemeasured unambiguously.
Pareto Chart
In a Pareto Chart the bar graph is used to depict the frequency for few events and where each frequency is shown in left to right in descending order. This is based on the Pareto Principle which is also known as 80-20 rule.
Risk Management
Risk has two key elements - a) uncertainty b) potential loss impact.
Sampling
Sampling is a method of finding way about one or more characteristic of large groups of item by examining a smaller but selection of group items. Steps to get successful samplings are discussed by choosing good sampling technique andalso determining the sample size
Scatter Plot
Scatter plot is a technique to find relationship between a dependent variable (z) and an independent variable (x) by plotting “z” against “x”. Plotted to spot the correlation between “z” and “x” variable.
SIPOC
SIPOC is a high-level picture of the processes that shows how the given process is servicing the customers. It is also known for Suppliers-Inputs-Process-Outputs-Customers.
