Definition of Unit of Measurement



A unit of measurement is a standard quantity that is used for measuring something.

For example, the units of length include nanometres, micrometres, millimetres, centimetres, and kilometres.

Up until the 1960s the standard length of a metre was given by the length of a platinum-iridium bar like the one shown in the picture. Today, it is given by the distance travelled by light in a vacuum in 1,299,792,458 seconds.

Description

The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
