About this worksheet

Suits Years 5 to 7

Find the biggest number that divides both given numbers: the GCF of 8 and 12 is 4; of 18 and 27 is 9.

The straightforward method: list each number s factors and take the largest in common. Speed comes from knowing the times tables inside out, which is half the point.

How to make your worksheet

  1. Choose the number of problems and the limits.
  2. Press Generate for a fresh page.
  3. Print it. Answers included.

Every press of Generate lays out a fresh sheet, ready to print on A4.

Common questions

GCF s day job?

Simplifying fractions in one stroke: 18/27 divided top and bottom by their GCF 9 gives ⅔, fully reduced, no repeat visits. Also fair-sharing puzzles: the largest equal bundles two quantities allow.

What if the GCF is 1?

Then the numbers are called coprime, like 8 and 15, and the fraction 8/15 is already in lowest terms. GCF 1 is an answer, not a failure.
