About this worksheet
Suits all primary yearsType your words and the maker hides them in a letter grid, filling the gaps with decoys. The solution page prints alongside, so marking is a glance, not a hunt.
Word searches earn their keep by forcing slow, letter-by-letter reading of the target words, which is quiet spelling rehearsal wearing a puzzle costume.
How to make your worksheet
- Type your words, one per line. Spaces are removed automatically in the grid.
- Pick the grid size: at least as long as your longest word.
- Choose the difficulty, which controls the directions words can run.
- Press Generate. The puzzle and its solution open in a new tab.
The maker lays your own words and passages out as a clean sheet, ready to print on A4.
Common questions
What difficulty suits which age?
For early readers, the easier setting keeps every word running forwards, left to right or downwards. Backwards and diagonal words belong to confident readers; they make a puzzle harder without teaching more spelling, so save them for the fun factor.
How many words fit sensibly?
Ten to fifteen in a medium grid. Cram in more and the grid must grow so large that finding anything becomes luck. Two smaller puzzles beat one giant one.
