Question 1 of 5 Digital systems

Two files sit side by side in one folder. On a tablet, the bakery order sheet saved as orders.docx opens ready for typing, while the shopfront photo kept with it opens ready for viewing. What decides which program opens each one?

A The device reads the first few lines inside each file and works out the program from what it finds, since the words in a letter look nothing like the pattern inside a photo. B A file stays tied to the program that saved it, because that program wrote it and keeps a claim on it, so nothing else is allowed to open it afterwards. C The short ending after the dot is the file type. The device looks that type up in a list of programs, so the right one opens without being asked. D The size of the file decides, since a small file can be handled by anything on the device while a large one has to be passed to a stronger program.

While typing, a member deletes three lines from the surf club sign on sheet, holds Ctrl and presses Z, and the lines reappear word for word. What is happening behind that key press?

A Give the picture file a longer, fuller name that describes the shot, since the reading software reaches the picture and speaks its file name to the listener. B Make the picture larger on the page, since a photo that fills more of the screen carries its meaning more strongly and leaves less of it for a reader to miss. C Put the description in a caption under the photo and leave the picture setting empty, since anybody who wants to know what the photo shows can take it from the words printed beneath. A The draft that gives the topic word on its own, because a short subject line is quicker to read in a crowded inbox and busy families open it more readily. It names the change and what the reader must do, so the message can be found and acted on straight from the inbox list. D The draft that only presses the reader to act, because a word like that tells forty families the message matters and should not be left until later.
