IB skill practice

Use constant-acceleration equations

Paper 1, Paper 2 5 marks Difficulty 3

Use a constant-acceleration equation for displacement

During a school sports timing gate, an object starts at \(4\,\text{m s}^{-1}\) and accelerates uniformly at \(3\,\text{m s}^{-2}\) for \(5\,\text{s}\). Calculate the displacement. Enter the numerical result and choose the interpretation that matches the physics meaning.

Worked practice: physics data and result

Read the physical quantities first, then calculate the result and state what it means.
