Today in this lesson we will learn the external features of living things.
Living things are those that can live, breathe, walk, talk just like you.

Living things are divided into two main groups. Animals and Plants.
Furthermore the classification of plants by the scientist have been done in two main groups.
Vertebrates: those animals which have a backbone. And
Invertebrates: Animals without a backbone.

Animals with a backbone can be divided into five more groups.
Mammals,, Amphibians, Reptiles, Birds and Fish.
These all are vertebrates.

Invertebrates are another kind of animal. Those who do not have a backbone. They can be crushed easily.
For example butterfly, jellyfish, octopus, spider, and all those animals with tentacles.

Vertebrates are those animals that have a backbone.
Vertebrates have backbone. There is a proper skeleton that is absent in invertebrates.

Mammals give birth to their young ones.
They feed their babies with their own milk.
They are more or less covered with hair.
Mammals are warm blooded. Warm blooded animals are those that can make their own body heat even when it is cold outside.

Amphibians are unique animals.
They are cold blooded although they lay eggs.
They have a smooth moist skin.
They are able to live in water as well as in land.

Reptiles are cold blooded animals. Cold blooded animals are those whose body temperature varies with that of the environment.
They lay eggs.
They have a dry skin covered with scales.

Another kind of vertebrate is birds.
Birds have feathers, they lay eggs and are warm blooded.

Fishes are cold blooded.
They lay eggs but some of them also do give birth to their young ones.
They have a moist skin which is covered with scales.
And they do not have nostrils to breaths, instead they breaths through gills.
