I finished secondary school only five years ago, and am therefore familiar with the stress of not understanding subject content or not knowing how to improve one's standard. I know the frustration of working harder and harder but not knowing exactly how to attract those extra marks. From experience, however, I also know that it can often only take a little bit of extra guidance to get you on track to achieve your academic goals. I am therefore passionate about helping students in such a way that will both alleviate stress and help students reach their aims. I have a great passion for English, History, Law and Politics, and thus have a lot to offer secondary students of humanities subjects. I have a distinction average in my Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Law degrees at the ANU, and have ranked highly in a number of assessments over the course of my degree. I particularly enjoy research and writing research papers, and thus can offer assistance developing research and essay writing skills. Being a law student, I know how to make effective summaries of notes, and employ effective memory techniques to enhance exam preparation. I also know some excellent exam strategies designed to calm nerves and demonstrate the extent of your knowledge in an exam context. During my time at university I have interned in the United States Congress, worked in a political office in NSW, interned for the Australia-America Association and as a member of the Education portfolio of the Law Students Society. I therefore have an extended understanding of politics and law, but have also studied English and History to a high level. Tutoring sessions I run are flexible and designed to appeal best to the individual student. If possible, I will ask that the student sends me a sample of work prior to the first tutoring session, so that I can arrive at the first meeting with a good understanding of the student's standard of work and potential areas for improvement. I generally spend the first five-ten minutes of a tutoring session getting to know the student - particularly their interests, preferred subjects, approach to study and goals for the future. This helps me to get an idea of how I can structure the tutoring session to best appeal to the student's learning style, and identify possible improvements that could be made to study patterns and techniques. The rest of the tutoring session is generally spent providing assistance on specific subjects as requested by the student, or on activities designed to enhance certain skills. I am flexible with my availability, and am able to travel as necessary. Please feel free to contact me with any questions - I am more than happy to accommodate any special requests for assistance wherever possible.
