About this place

What to expect

Lake Mapourika is a pristine freshwater lake created by the Franz Josef Glacier 14,000 years ago. It now sits calm and reflective between the mountains and the sea, in the warmer and drier section of the Franz Josef Glacier valley.

This venue features outstanding views of 11 different glaciers, Mt Tasman and Mt Cook. We also explore some of Westland's oldest untouched native rainforest in the Okarito Kiwi Sanctuary.

Join us on a Kayak Classic tour (3hrs) where we paddle into the kiwi sanctuary via a narrow estuary!
OR
Embark on our Kayak & Walk (4hrs) and let your guide take you on a unique rainforest trail in the protected kiwi habitat. Tea/coffee provided as you explore the Jurassic rainforest - all to the sound of Native Birdsong!
