Definition of Year | SubjectCoach

A year is the amount of time it takes for the Earth to fully orbit the Sun once.

It takes slightly more than 365 days for the Earth to go around the Sun, so we introduce leap years about once every 4 years.

A normal year has 365 days and a leap year has 366 days.

Each year has 12 months: January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December.

If you live in the tropics, each year has 2 seasons (a rainy season and a dry season). For the rest of us, each year has 4 seasons (Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring).

There are just over 52 weeks in each year.

New Year's Day (the 1st of January) is the first day of each year, and New Year's Eve (the 31st of December) is the last day of each year.
