Definition of Multiple


A multiple is the result of multiplying one integer by another integer.

The number grid on the left shows all the multiples of \(3\) (highlighted in yellow) between \(1\) and \(100\).

Some other examples are the following:

  • \(18\) is a multiple of \(9\) as \(9 \times 2 = 18\).
  • \(-12\) is a multiple of \(4\) as \(4 \times -3 = -12\).
  • \(6\) is NOT a multiple of \(5\) as \(6 = 5 \times 1 + 1\).

Description

The aim of this dictionary is to provide definitions to common mathematical terms. Students learn a new math skill every week at school, sometimes just before they start a new skill, if they want to look at what a specific term means, this is where this dictionary will become handy and a go-to guide for a student.
