Definition of Multiple

A multiple is the result of multiplying one integer by another integer.

The number grid on the left shows all the multiples of \(3\) (highlighted in yellow) between \(1\) and \(100\).

Some other examples are the following:

  • \(18\) is a multiple of \(9\) as \(9 \times 2 = 18\).
  • \(-12\) is a multiple of \(4\) as \(4 \times -3 = -12\).
  • \(6\) is NOT a multiple of \(5\) as \(6 = 5 \times 1 + 1\).
