Carrington House and Historical Gardens
Carrington House and Historical Gardens

Flowering shrubs complement the towering majestic trees - of which there are a few, several of which are now over 100 years old. Plantings included Sequoias, Birches, Elms, Rhododendrons, Camellias and the first Red Robins. A Bluebell wood has been planted under the Elms.
In 1990 an Arboretum of English trees was planted to complement the English garden designed by Alfred Buxton in 1912. It was planted with 20,000 daffodils in 1992. The property, a fine expression of an early Wairarapa homestead, has hosted many grand social occasions and fund-raising events.
Registered with New Zealand Historic Places Trust as a Category 2 Historic Place in 1983, Carrington House joined New Zealand Garden Trust as a Garden of Significance in 2013.
