Common questions
How many lines should an answer get?
Match the expectation: one line for a fact, three or four for an explanation, more for a paragraph. Line count is quiet instruction, students read it as "this is how much you should write", so set it deliberately.
What makes a question worth asking on paper?
One that starts with why or how usually beats one starting with what. "What is a mammal" fetches a memorised line; "how do you know a whale is a mammal" makes the child argue, and arguing on ruled lines is called writing.
